I have never come across any one who hates hash brown. I used store bought packet of hash brown to make this recipe  It was pre-cooked. This recipe makes it more tasty, little spicy and enjoyable. This will be a good breakfast.

1. Shred three hash brown slices into small pieces.. Shred three hash brown slices into small pieces.

2. Beat two eggs well. Add a dash of pepper and salt to the egg while whipping it. Set it aside.

3. Heat a medium sauce pan or a frying pan. I used a wok. Add 2 tbsp butter or vegetable oil. When the oil gets hot reduce the heat to low.


4. Add 150 grams finely chopped onion.Fry for about 8 minutes or till the onion turns golden brown.

5. Now add 3 cloves garlic, 3 grams finely chopped ginger, ¼ tsp pepper powder, ½ tsp salt, 3 grams finely chopped red chili and 30 grams finely chopped green chili and continue frying for 5 minutes. 


6. Now add the shredded hash brown pieces, stir and continue to fry for one minute.

7. Take out half the hash brown into a separate bowl and keep it aside.


8. I continued to fry for another 4 minutes and the hash brown pieces became crispy. I took the wok off the heat and transferred the contents into a plate. This was my vegetarian version of stir-fried hash brown.

9. I added the other half of the hash brown that I had taken out earlier to the wok and fried for about one minute.

Then I added the beaten egg to the pan and stirred briskly. I fried for another 4 minutes. The end product was crispy. This was my non-vegetarian version of the hash brown.


10. It is done. You can serve this for a breakfast or as a snack. This can be consumed on its own or served with bread. I hope you will like this. Enjoy!

3 grams ginger chopped extra finely
30 grams green chili (1) chopped finely
2 gram red chili – spicy (1) chopped finely
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper powder
2 tablespoon of butter or vegetable oil

Add the onion.Fry for about 8 minutes or till the onion turns golden brown.

Now add garlic, ginger, red chili and green chili and continue frying for 5 minutes. The fumes from the chillies may irritate tour nose or throat. So stand away from the cooker and use a long handle spoon or ladle to stir the contents of the frying pan.

Now add the shredded hash brown pieces, stir and continue to fry for one minute.

At this point I took out half the hash brown into a separate bowl and kept it aside.
I continued to fry for another 4 minutes and the hash brown pieces became crispy.

I took the wok off the heat and transferred the contents into a plate. This was my vegetarian version of stir-fried hash brown.

As you go along frying the hash brown pieces will get crispier and crispier. You can stop at the point when the crispiness suits you taste.
While frying you should remember to stir frequently to prevent the hash brown from burning.
 It is done.
