Juicing for weight loss and or detoxification

This is also called juice fasting because the juice (or raw food) does not supplement the normal diet but it is taken exclusively and avoiding other forms of food. Some people call it juice feasting because there is no need to limit the quantity of juice consumed.

Curtailing consumption of food for weight loss leaves a person lacking in energy and weak. Juicing gives the energy needed for the normal day to day activity of a person.

A juice fast may last from 2 to 60 days. It is better to take several shorter fasts over a period of time than taking a continuous fast of 60 days.

Weight loss is fast because the juice does not contain much of carbohydrates, fats and protein that contribute to the calorie count. It does however provide these nutrients that our body needs in modest quantities.

Dr Robert Young is a strong proponent of juicing and raw food for pH balance. He has written three books – PH Miracle, PH Miracle for Weight loss and PH Miracle for Diabetes. He argues that the body
stores fat on the walls of the arteries and veins in order to protect them from the acid in the blood damaging them. If we keep our blood (and the body) alkaline then there will be no need for the body to store that fat. He claims that if we keep the body alkaline we would lose about one pound of 450 grams per day.

Meat and dairy products cause our body to be acidic and therefore should be avoided. A list of alkaline and acidic food is found here.
