Juicing for diabetes

Carbohydrates give energy to the body and should be an essential ingredient in our daily life. But consuming carbohydrates in big quantity will raise the glucose level in the blood. So diabetics will have to reduce the quantum of carbohydrates. This may lead to feeling of hunger and tiredness. When you feel hungry it will be difficult to concentrate. To overcome these hunger pangs diabetics should consume larger amount of

vegetables that contribute very little sugar to our system. Cooking process destroys some of the beneficial nutrients in the vegetables. Therefore it is best to consume the vegetables in raw form.  There are people who live on raw vegetable diet but it is not easy for all to adopt that lifestyle. Those of us who cannot consume raw vegetables all day long can take some vegetables cooked and some raw. Even better option would be to consume fruit and vegetable juice daily.

While fruit juices are delicious, it is not good for diabetics to consume fruit juices regularly. This is because fruit juices are more concentrated in fructose than raw fruits. Diabetics should avoid fruits with high sugar content such as pineapple, mango and jack fruit. But they can consume in moderation fruits low in sugar content such as avocado, papaya, banana and apple. It is best to add some fruits like apple to vegetables when juicing and they will improve the taste of the juice.

It will not be a good idea to cut off carbohydrates and fats totally because in the absence of these the body will try to draw fat stored in body to produce required energy. This may lead to the presence of ketones in the blood which in turn may lead to ketoacidosis.

While taking vegetable juice you should check the blood sugar level regularly.  From experience you will know what kind of fruits and vegetables help you most. You should check your blood sugar two hours after consuming the juice to get the best results.

Keeping the body alkaline will also help both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Dr Young is the author of the book – PH Miracle for Diabetes. He argues that by consuming alkaline food and keeping the body alkaline one can reduce blood sugar levels and even reverse diabetes. This works for both type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. He says that avocado is a perfect food that balances the pH level in the internal fluids and this helps in reducing medication for diabetes. This book also contains hundreds of recipes (by his wife) suitable for diabetics that will help them get out of their dependence on medication.
