Nutrition is essential to maintain growth and support a healthy human body. Lack of nutrition in the body is called malnutrition. Lack of nutrition hastens aging process and also results in many degenerative diseases.

The nutritional requirement varies according to the age and gender of a person. Children require nutrients that promote physical and mental growth.
Old aged persons will require anti-oxidant rich food that will slow down the ageing process.

Nutritious diet is a balanced diet – a diet that contains different kinds of foods and drinks from different groups. It also implies moderation in consuming certain types of foods such as saturated fats, trans-fats, salt, alcohol etc.

Vitamins
Minerals
